I received an email from tumblr regarding the tumblr api during the outage.

It contained the following:

“the API will be suspended during the operation — returning a simple “we’ll be right back” message.”

Does this mean the API will be returning a header code of 200?

Is the “we’ll be right back” message placed in the description field of the request response?

Will the entire response be “we’ll be right back?”

Why not provide a 400, 401, or 404 that I can code against to understand when my tumblr app has hit the outage condition? Although fine for a gui interface, the “we’ll be right back” is not an acceptable API error response.

Does anyone know what the API will actually return? It would be nice to know at what level I will need to catch the outage in my code.
