I’m living without passive aggression or sarcasm. I’m addressing things that don’t feel right.
So, something has been bothering me as a major oversight of professional courtesy on the part of a long-time acquaintance.
I referred this man - a part-time real estate agent - to my dear friend who was selling a size able estate. It was an awful market. This was a true gift. My friend was happy with the sale, this part-time realtor acquaintance was ecstatic.
I did not get the standard professional courtesy of a Thank You note hanging around a bottle of Champagne - or even the Thank You note part.
He did send my friend a very generous restaurant gift card. But that made it clear he knew what was appropriate to do for his clients - I don’t know how he could take my piece of the transaction for granted.
So, very plainly, when he reached out to me tonight with a one sentence email: “How ya feelin’?” I sent a note back.
I gave him a brief health update. Then, the last line of my note was, “Now would be a really good time for you to send your home-bound friend who referred you a very profitable real estate client some flowers. That sounds really nice to me.”
Even if nothing comes of it, I feel stronger for having addressed it. It is what I needed, just to get it out of me.
I will keep you posted.

People should communicate what they believe in, and a friend will know that and still be a friend.
