Eating healthier food is all the rage these days, so I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon. For example, I am using high-fiber wraps for sandwiches instead of bread.
To add flavor to my wrap-wiches (Don’t steal that! It’s totally mine!), I am replacing mayonnaise with an intense tomato spread. The goal is to make something with a lot of flavor so I only need to spread the same amount of it that I would typically use for mayonnaise.
I start with Hunt’s Roasted Garlic & Onion pasta sauce and add lots of extra garlic powder and onion powder. I also add hot pepper flakes, oregano, parsley, rosemary, and Italian seasoning. I cook it down until it’s about two-thirds of the original volume.
Then I sauté diced onions and peppers and add them to the sauce. I heat that on low, stirring often (Don’t let the sauce stick! I’M STIRRING IT!) to let the flavors blend.
It turns out super-thick and chunky, and delicious. A little definitely goes a long way.
